My Action Research Plan

Action Planning Template
Goal:  I will research effective RtI documentation methods and SST procedures to enhance and streamline my campuses current RtI/SST processes.

  • Through the use of teacher interviews and anonymous surveys, I hope to discern what is working and what areas we can improve.
  • I plan to collect a sample of ideas from other district wide campuses and online literature of effective processes.
  • Utilizing a focus of group of grade level teachers and campus specialists, I hope to create a cohesive group invested in analyzing the data collected and determining how we can revise our current processes to better meet the needs of our teachers and students.
  • Design and implement an online database of RtI documentation methods and management tools to support the classroom teacher.

  1. Your action research plan looks great. It appears you have covered all eight steps.

  2. Very well thought out. You might benefit from working with the special ed. coordinator/diagnostician early on to design the surveys. They could ensure you get feedback on all the areas they typically need when a case reaches them.

  3. Your action research plan is very thought out and organized. I am excited about following your blog and seeing the results of your action research. Sustaining improvements to the RTI process is pertinent to its success. Over the past four years our numbers of RTI students have grown to a capacity that we can no longer effectively handle. Therefore; this summer a small committee of RTI specialist and curriculum coordinators met to reflect on the criteria for moving to a Tier 2. Currently, we have students on Tier 2 and even Tier 3 who have passed the state assessment and have passing averages in their courses. RTI was not designed to make average students better, but a pathway to help students who are truly struggling. Our thinking was in need of a change. This year we are making some changes. Above you mentioned your lifers, those that were tested for special education but did not qualify for some reason. We try so hard to make the best decisions possible for these students who still struggle and have not met minimum criteria for state assessments and course grades. As a committee. we decided to continue to work with these students a minimum of three days a week, but move their official status back to a Tier 2. At the current time our progress monitoring paperwork is out the roof. Our current numbers have us sitting at 52 students for two grade levels. Unbelieveable!
I look forward to reading more about this topic, as well the incorporation of behavior.
